(V.3 ELECTROLYZER)

12/11/22

Finished all planing of the electrolyzer. I worked with paper, because it was easier to me. Also with paper I was able to continue planning at school, during breaks. I also finished ordering all the parts for the complex, and I am waiting for them (some of them already came. But I will have to wait until December for other parts). I am also planning on doing some tests. These consist on testing the durability of PVC under the deteriorating power of Sodium Hydroxide. I will explain why this is needed: To obtain O2 and H2 from water, I need to pass current through the liquid. The problem here is that distilled water is non-conductive (and I can not use normal water because of the impurities). So to solve that, I am going to use Sodium Hydroxide, which dissolved in water increases its conductivity. And again, we see more issues, the NaOH (Sodium Hydroxide) is a very powerful lye which can destroy some organic and inorganic compounds. And that is why I want to test PVCs resistance, because I will pour a NaOH solution into it (go to construction notes to see how is the core going to be). Another test is the resistance of stainless steel to the same solution (I need the results to evaluate how often will I have to change the electrodes).

15/11/22

Bought the PVC tubes and tested their resistance to NaOH. I did not see any deterioration in 24 hours completely submerged into the solution. I also tested the steel (I used another steel object because the steel sheet that I ordered have not arrived yet. The result for steel was also positive, and no oxidation was noticed. I will start construction of the PVC structure and buy some wood for the external box.
LAST MOMENT UPDATE!
Today arived the stainless steel. I am very glad because it was suposed to arrive at the ends of december. Now I can finish much faster! I started making the circles for the electrodes.

16/11/22

We will have a school project (19/11) where we are going to do some experiments. Everyone will do something like non-newtonian fluid, bubbles, etc. I will bring my machine and show how H2 burns :D. That is a reason to accelerate the project, so I am going to go real fast. Finally, I want to say that I will not bring the finished version. It will not have the variable power supply, and It will be very basic. The project continues, though, so keep visiting for more updates (the finished version will be as explained in the previous page).
